UPDATED: Roof Collapses at Assisted Living Center

No one injured, Golden Living issues statement.

All 109 residents of the Golden Living Assisted Living Center on Scenic Highway in Lawrenceville were temporarily evacuated after a mid-morning roof collapse in the dining area.

No one was injured in the incident that took place just before 10 a.m.

Davangi Desai, excutive director of Golden Living Center - Medical Arts, said the roof collapse occurred during the scheduled replacement and reconstruction of the facility's roof.

"Our caregivers immediately enacted their safety procedures, and all patients and residents are safe and comfortable," Desai said in a released statement.

Desai said all residents are being moved to nearby facilities until the facility has been repaired and inspected.

"The safety and well being of our patients and residents is always our first priority, and we are proud of how our caregivers have responded to this situation," he added.

According to fire and corporate officials, no one was inside the dining area at the time of the roof collapse. Firefighters are working with city inspectors to conduct a damage assessment.

The incident resulted in a loss of telephone service to the facility. The company has established a telephone help line at 1-800-926-5766 for friends and family members.
