Rowdy Gas Station Patron Arrested

Man claims Satan said he was "crazy."

An Auburn man was taken into custody after causing a disturbance at the .

Witnesses said Jerome Young, 576 Auburn Road in Auburn, drove into the parking lot at a high rate of speed almost striking a woman. The witnesses told police Young exited his vehicle yelling “Yeah, I said it. Yeah, I said it” and walked into the gas station. According to the women, Young appeared to be arguing with the clerk. After exiting the store, he allegedly walked up to the women and said, “Satan said I’m crazy.”

A arrived a short time later and began questioning Young. The officer asked Young how long he had been at the gas station and Young reportedly answered that he had driven there approximately 15 minutes prior to the officer’s arrival.

According to the police report, Young admitted drinking “a little” alcohol before changing his answer to none. The officer noted in his report that Young had an odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath and that his eyes were bloodshot and glazed.

Young refused to submit to field sobriety tests and denied that he had been driving even though he had previously told the officer he had driven to the gas station. Based on his previous admission of driving and obvious physical signs of impairment, Young was placed under arrest.

As the officer was reading the implied consent notice, Young interrupted saying he was going to sue the officer for arresting him for DUI when he had not been driving. When the officer finished reading the implied consent notice and asked Young if he would take the state administered breath test, Young allegedly blew in the officer’s face and said no.

Young was transported to the Gwinnett County Detention Center. The officer wrote, “While at the jail, the suspect tried to walk towards me in an aggressive manner causing the deputies to have to place him in a cell by himself.”

Young was issued citations for DUI and disorderly conduct.
