Tattooed Man Killed on I-85 Ran Out of Gas

Calvin Wilson Jr, 26, was a medical student on his way home for Thanksgiving.

The 26-year-old man who died last week after being struck by a tractor-trailer on I-85 ran out of gas on his way home for Thanksgiving, according to the Charlotte Observer. Calvin Wilson Jr. was hit and killed at about 3 a.m. on Nov. 25.  Wilson had very little in his pockets at the time of the accident and police requested assistance in identifying him.

Wilson reportedly was a student at the Academy of Oriental Medicine at Austin's Graduate School of Integrative Medicine who went by the nickname of "Cal." His family became concerned when he didn't arrive Wednesday night from his trip home from Austin, Texas. He allegedly contacted his father and said he had run out of gas Wednesday and needed money. When his parents did not hear from him again, they began posting messages on his Facebook page looking for him. It is unclear at this time what happened between Wednesday when he contacted his father to say he ran out of gas and the early morning hours of Friday when he was struck and killed by the tractor-trailer. Police reported that the driver of the tractor-trailer would not be facing charges.

A funeral service for Wilson is planned for 1 p.m. today at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Charlotte.
