Thieves Use $1,000 in Counterfeit Bills to Buy Debit Cards at Hamilton Mill Walmart

Gwinnett County Police are looking for two men who used $1,000 in fake bills to buy debit cards at the Hamilton Mill Walmart.

During the evening of Feb. 19, two males made separate purchases of Green Dot Moneypack debit cards. The first male bought a $500 card. The total transaction cost was $504.64, which the male paid for using six counterfeit $100 bills. The cashier, according to the police report, held the bills up to the light and then accepted them. The second male purchased a $400 card, which he paid for using four counterfeit $100 bills.

The bills were later determined to be $5 bills that had been bleached and reprinted to look like $100 bills.

Walmart loss prevention personnel were able to provide police with video surveillance of the incident as well as still images of the suspects.

The case is listed as active.
