Three Days and $100 Later, Man Charged With Aggressive Solicitation

Man had allegedly been soliciting for money near the intersection of Braselton Highway and Gravel Springs Road.

A Dacula man managed to work an intersection for three days before being spotted a Gwinnett County Police officer.

On Nov. 12, an officer patrolling in the area of Braselton Highway and Gravel Springs Road noticed a man, later identified as Charles Canady, 51, of Dacula, walking in the roadway carrying a cardboard sign with the message "Unemployed (Need Work) Please Help."

"As soon as Mr. Canady noticed me, he folded the sign into his arm and began walking towards the Walgreens," the officer wrote in the arrest report.

The officer approached Canady and asked if he had been soliciting. Canady initially said no, but eventually admitted he had been asking for money due to losing his job. Canady said he had been working the intersection for three days and had obtained roughly $100.

Canady, who the officer noted lives in a house in Dacula and has a cell phone, was arrested on a charge of aggressive solicitation and transported to the Gwinnett County Jail. He was released later that day on a $140 bond.
