Truck Found 'Severely Damaged' Outside of Automotive Shop

Gwinnett County Police were called to the parking lot of the Hamilton Mill Tires Plus on Sardis Church Road.

The owners of a 1999 black Ford Ranger called Gwinnett County Police after they say they found their truck vandalized in the parking lot at Tires Plus on Sardis Church Road.

A man and his ex-wife on July 28 told police that their son had dropped the truck off several weeks earlier and paid for service.   They said the truck was driveable and only had minor body damage when it was left there.

According to the incident report, the man said employees recommended that the engine be replaced, but they didn't agree.  He said his son stopped by to pick up a few things from the truck before it could be arranged to be towed to another location, and that is when his son found it damaged in the parking lot.

"I observed that every body panel of the truck was severely damaged," an officer wrote in the report. "The windows were all cracked or smashed out.  The interior had been destroyed and most of it removed, to include the ignition key being broken off in the ignition."

The officer wrote that it appeared that most of the body and interior pieces that were removed had been placed in the truck bed.

"In the engine bay there was also significant damage, broken intake, cooling, tubing, and other mechanical components damaged significantly," the officer continued.  "On the front right fender the suspect used what appears to be some sort of power tool to write 'POS' into the paint."

The officer noted in the report that there are several surveillance cameras outside of Tires Plus that may have covered the area where the truck was located.

The case is listed as active.
