Update: UGA Basketball Player Dismissed After Felony Pot Charge

Brandon Morris was arrested in Athens early Sunday morning.

University of Georgia head men's basketball coach Mark Fox has dismissed Brandon Morris from the team a day after the player was arrested and charged with felony marijuana possession in Athens.

Morris, a starting forward for the Bulldogs from Lithonia, was arrested early Sunday morning, according to Clarke County jail records. He was booked at 3:21 a.m. July 13, and released on a $2,500 bond at 11:54 a.m.

Fox made the following statement:

"This program has a strong expectation of citizenship and every one of our players understands this. This expectation does not mean that mistakes will not happen.  When they do I always deal with them appropriately.  Brandon had a very clear understanding of our expectation. Unfortunately, I've had to dismiss him from our team.

"We've offered Brandon as much help as we can as he leaves, in hope that he can continue his career somewhere else."

Morris averaged 8.6 points and 3.4 rebounds last season as a sophomore.
