Vandals Pour Sugar in Gas Tank

Victim discovered sugar after noticing gas tank door was open.

A Gainesville man fell prey to vandals during a recent visit to Dacula.

On Oct. 15, the victim walked outside the Greyleaf Lane home where he had been visiting and discovered the gas tank door of his 2011 Hyundai Sonata was open. The victim attempted to close the door, but it would not remain shut.

Believing the release was possibly stuck, the victim started the car and let it run for about 10 seconds before noticing sugar on the ground near his car. The victim immediately turned off the car and inspected the gas tank more closely. The victim said it was at that point he noticed sugar inside the filler neck.

The officer noticed chipped paint where the gas tank door had been pried open.

The victim said he did not know who would have vandalized his car, but said there had been other incidents of vandalism in the neighborhood. There were no signs of tampering on the other vehicle in the driveway.
