Vehicle Fire in Buford Ruled Arson, Reward Offered for Information

A car horn in the middle of the night alerted neighbors to a car fire that has been determined to be the work of an arsonist.

On July 24, neighbors near a home in the 2900 block of Trailing Ivy Way were awakened by a car horn at approximately 1:30 a.m. When they realized a vehicle was on fire, they called firefighters and attempted to alert the owners of the vehicle.

Gwinnett County Police officers and neighbors attempted to extinguish the vehicle fire prior to the firefighters' arrival. The fire, which completely engulfed a black Ford F-150 pickup truck, also caused heat damage to the exterior of the brick home. Firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control.

According to a Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services press release, fire investigators have ruled the fire an intentional act of arson. Surveillance video from the scene shows what appears to be a dark-skinned male exit a four-door sedan driven by another unidentified individual. In the video, the male is shown breaking the Ford's passenger side window and throwing a lit object into the truck.

Georgia Arson Control, Inc., is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this crime.
