Woman Reportedly Admits to Having 'a Little Meth' in Purse

Gwinnett County Police charged the Jefferson resident with drug offenses in Dacula.

Gwinnett County Police arrested a Jefferson woman for possession of methamphetamine in the early morning hours of July 27 while investigating a report of a suspicious vehicle.

According to an incident report, officers at 12:19 a.m. responded to the area of Burnt Hickory Drive and Burnt Hickory Way in Dacula where a white 1994 Chevy C/K 2500 truck was parked in the roadway.  Complainants had reported seeing people walk in and out of the woods near the vehicle.

Police found a man and a woman lying in the bed of the truck.  They asked the two for identification and questioned if either had been arrested previously. The man, 39, reportedly stated he'd been charged "a few years ago" with possession of Xanax and marijuana.  The woman, 43, said she'd been charged with battery.

The man also told officers he lived in the neighborhood and that his girlfriend from had come to visit him.

"I asked both subjects when they last consumed any alcohol or drugs," an officer wrote in the report. "Both stated they had not consumed any alcohol recently, but both admitted they do use illegal drugs."

The couple reportedly consented to a search and nothing illegal was found on them.  Next, officers searched the truck.

"I confirmed with [the woman] that I was allowed to search her vehicle, and she said yes," according to the officer's report. "She then began to cry, and seemed nervous. I asked her if I was going to find anything illegal inside of her vehicle, and she stated she had a small amount of marijuana in her purse.  I asked if that was everything, and she said that there was also 'a little meth' in her purse."

In a makeup pouch in the purse, police say they found a small, clear, plastic bag with less than one gram of a clear crystal-like material and another containing about one gram of a green, leafy substance believed to be marijuana.

Kelly Ann Spinks was booked into the Gwinnett County Detention Center on charges of possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. She was released the following day on a $4,250 bond. An arrest isn't a conviction.

The man was not charged.
