12Stone Zoning Request Gets Green Light From Planning Commission

The church has requested changes to the current zoning in order to accommodate the design of their new facility on Braselton Highway.

In an 8-0 vote, the Gwinnett County Planning Commission recommended approval for a change in zoning conditions requested by 12Stone Church.

Site development for the new Dacula facility, located at 3858 Braselton Highway, is currently underway. The 11-acre site will have an 800-seat auditorium and 570 parking spaces. 12Stone in Hamilton Mill is currently located on Teron Trace. The 1,400-strong congregation is expected to move to the new facility in early 2014.

The church has requested the existing zoning be modified to include architectural treatments of stucco and stacked stone. 12Stone has also asked the requirement for a pitched roof be removed in order to accommodate plans to construct a new facility at the site.

Norwood Davis, CFO of 12Stone, appeared before the planning commission on Sept. 3 to explain the request. Previous zoning requirements, Norwood said, were imposed with the idea the property would be developed for retail. Those requirements, particularly the pitched rood requirement, would not be appropriate for the 30,000-square-foot church, he said.

There was no opposition to the request.

The case will go before the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 24.
