City to Hold Two Meetings to Discuss Sanitation Fee Billing

The city is considering adding existing sanitation fees to the property tax bills.

City leaders are asking for the public’s input regarding a proposal to add existing sanitation fees to city property tax bills.

During the Oct. 4 city council meeting, Mayor Jimmy Wilbanks announced the city will hold two open house meetings to provide citizens with an opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback about the proposed billing change. The first meeting will be held on Thursday, Oct. 25 and the second will take place Thursday, Nov. 1. Both meetings will begin at 6 p.m.

Citizens who are unable to attend the public hearings may email their comments to Mayor Wilbanks at mayordacula@att.net or call 770-963-7451 to schedule an appointment to speak with the Mayor.

  • Authorized Mayor Wilbanks to sign an energy excise tax intergovernmental agreement with Gwinnett County. The agreement will allow the city and county to recoup revenue lost as a result of a new state law that exempts manufacturers from sales taxes on energy consumption used in the manufacturing process.
  • Decided to open up bidding for a new LED sign for city hall. The sign would be used to convey information to passing motorists. The sign is not budgeted and the costs -- estimated between $8,000 to $13,000 -- would come out of reserves.
  • Awarded the bid for the Freeman Walk subdivision paving project to Stewart Brothers. Stewart Brothers’ bid of $107,720 was the lowest of five bids received. The project will be funded through SPLOST.
  • Awarded the bid for the Superior Drive, Mobley Drive and Laura Lane roadwork project to F.E. Sims Enterprises. The bid amount of $448,000 was the lowest of six bids received. The project will also be funded through SPLOST.
