Commissioners to Vote on Hamilton Mill Pawn Shop Request

Planning commission recommended the special use permit be approved with conditions.

A special use permit request to open a pawn shop in the Hamilton Mill area goes before the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday, Sept. 27.

Earlier this month, the .

USA Money Services requested the special use permit for a 1,658-square-foot pawn shop to be located at 2590 Hamilton Mill Road, suite 107.

A gold buying business was previously located at the site. USA Money Services purchased the gold buying business with the intent to turn the site into a full service pawn shop according to the permit application.

No exterior changes are planned for the building.

The planning commission recommended approval of the request with conditions including:

  • Hours of operation shall be limited to between 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • No outdoor sales, storage or displays will be allowed.
  • Neon, LED or blinking window or wall signs will be prohibited.
  • No banners, streamers or roping decorated with flags, tinsel or other similar material shall be displayed, hung or strung on the site.

District 3 planning commission appointee Teresa Cantrell and Planning Commission Chairman Chuck Warbington (District 3 appointee) voted against the request.

The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners meets at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center, 75 Langley Drive, Lawrenceville. The meeting begins at 7 p.m.
