Council Approves Ordinance Change

Revision designed to eliminate vehicle damage caused by raised manholes in unfinished subdivisions.

By a unanimous vote, the Dacula City Council approved a change to the city’s regulations regarding new developments. The amendment requires that developers place a rubber safety rim around raised manhole covers in subdivisions where the roads have not been finished. On unfinished roads, the manhole covers may be several inches above the roadway. According to city officials, these raised manhole covers have resulted in damage to vehicles.

The safety rim is a rubberized ramp that prevents vehicle damage until the final layer of asphalt is placed on the roadway. The regulation will affect only new developments, not existing subdivisions.

In other business, council selected as the voting delegate for the annual membership business meeting of the 2011 Georgia Municipal Association annual convention.
