Council Decides How Potential TSPLOST Proceeds Will Be Spent

Though the outcome of the July 31 Transportation Investment Act referendum is far from certain, Dacula City leaders have already decided how their share of the 1-percent transportation sales tax (TSPLOST) will be spent.

The Dacula City Council unanimously voted to take any TSPLOST revenue, leverage it with Dacula’s regular special purpose local option sales tax (SPLOST) funding and accelerate the city's . Should TSPLOST pass, estimates place the city’s share of the proceeds at $1.5 million over a 10-year period.

In other business, the council authorized the city to issue a bid for street repairs in Freeman Walk Subdivision. The proposed repairs would include adding two inches of topping. The existing streets were never topped and have insufficient binder asphalt and base, said City Administrator Jim Osborn. The repairs will be funded through the city’s special purpose local option sales tax (SPLOST).
