Here’s the announcement posted on the city website:

The Mayor and City Council voted unanimously to request that the General Assembly annex thirty-four properties into the City of Dacula during this legislative session. The thirty-four properties consist of about 75 total acres in unincorporated Gwinnett County along the Winder Highway Corridor from GA 316 eastward to the current City Limits. If the General Assembly consents, the properties will need to be rezoned in the City. It is the intent of the City to zone all  properties to a City non-residential zoning designation. Although the subject properties will be rezoned, preexisting land uses will not be affected.

The City is inviting concerned property owners to a meeting on February 19, 2014 at the Dacula City Hall, 442 Harbins Road, Dacula, GA 30019 at 7:00 p. m. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss this legislative annexation and expected effects on the properties in question.

Annexation of these properties is in the best interest of the property owners, the  City, and Gwinnett County.  Property owners, some of whom have approached the City about annexation in the past,  will benefit by achieving  uniform zoning and architectural  standards. Since this annexation is initiated by City Resolution, annexation fees will be waived for these properties. The City is working hard to make  gateways into the City attractive, provide standard signage, and generally clear away some of the unattractive areas. The annexation will help square up the City Limits and makes what government provides services clearer and easier. As the corridor develops, Gwinnett County will be able to take a number of sewer pump stations off line with the attendant cost savings.

As a first step in improving the looks of the Winder Highway corridor, the City Council also approved going to bids to demolish the old city hall and stabilize the land on which the old city hall stands.
