Dacula Patch Election Guide

A look at the candidates and issues that will be affecting Dacula and Gwinnett County.

As we look ahead to this year's elections, Dacula Patch is devoted to bringing you the information you need about important races and issues. Here's our start on the candidates and issues we'll be covering this election cycle.

TSPLOST

On July 31, voters will head to the polls to decide whether or not to impose an additional 1 percent sales tax on every purchase made for the next 10 years. The proceeds from this tax will fund a specified list of transportation projects with a small portion of the proceeds set aside as discretionary transportation spending for local governments. If there is any local race likely to generate as lively of a debate as the one surrounding TSPLOST, it is the race for Gwinnett County Commission District 3. Republican incumbent Mike Beaudreau is facing three challengers: Mike Korom, Tommy Hunter and Jerry Oberholtzer. As all four candidates are Republicans, this race will likely be decided during the July 31. Read more here:

Beginning in 2013, Dacula will no longer be part of the 7th Congressional District. We will now be part of the sprawling 10th Congressional District currently represented by Paul Broun. Broun is facing one challenger in the GOP primary -- businessman and retired Army officer Stephen Simpson. For more on this race, please see:

Casino Gambling

Another controversial political topic is gambling. Should the State of Georgia allow casino gambling? Republican voters will be asked to give their opinion on this matter during the election.

Presidential Election

As they say, all politics are local. As such, the Presidential election promises to be a hot topic for the next few months. Will you vote for Barack Obama or Mitt Romney? Join in the discussion on these articles or start your own discussion:
