Former Dacula Postmaster Joins Race for State House District 104

Tim Puckett joins former Gwinnett County prosecutor Chuck Efstration as a contender for the seat vacated by Donna Sheldon.

Former Dacula postmaster Tim Puckett has announced his candidacy for State House District 104, the seat Donna Sheldon recently vacated in order to pursue her congressional bid.

In an email to Dacula Patch, Puckett describes himself as a lifelong resident of Gwinnett County and the Dacula area. Puckett retired in 2007 after 14 years as the Dacula Postmaster.

"I was proud to serve the Dacula area and  was most excited to get the Post Office built at the corner of Dacula Road and Fence Road," Puckett wrote. "I also was able to observe and manage the growth that happened while I was Postmaster. I consider myself to be a public servant and hopefully helped many people during my time there."

Puckett is presently employed by Tim Stewart Funeral Home. He has been married to Janice Archer Puckett for 41 years as has two children.

"I am running on a platform of "COMMON SENSE" with conservative values," Puckett wrote. "I desire to continue to be a servant to mankind. I solicit your support and prayers as I keep working for you."

Puckett joins former Gwinnett County prosecutor and former Gwinnett Republican Party chairman Chuck Efstration as a contender for the house seat.

Efstration, who owns a Lawrenceville law firm, announced his candidacy in April. According to his campaign website, Efstration grew up in the Hamilton Mill community and graduated from Greater Atlanta Christian. He holds degrees from the University of Georgia and Mercer Law School.

An endorsement from Mayor Jimmy Wilbanks of Dacula, who is listed as Efstration's campaign committee chairman, is posted on the candidate's Facebook page:

"As the Mayor of Dacula, I believe we need a leader who will listen to us, stand up for us and work hard to keep our community strong. That's why I am proudly endorsing Chuck Efstration. I know he will provide the energetic leadership we deserve, and I ask you to join me in voting for him," Wilbanks is quoted as saying.

The special election will be held in November.
