Greg Reeves Resigns from Dacula City Council

Reeves is facing felony theft charges; Council will appoint a replacement.

Dacula Councilman Greg Reeves, who is accused of misusing a city-issued credit card for personal expenses, has resigned from his position. The council voted last week to ask Reeves to step down.

Reeves faces felony theft charges, stemming from a March arrest for illegally using the credit card for $3,600 worth of personal expenses, including car rental for his pizza delivery job.

He has not been indicted yet, according to a Gwinnett Daily Post report, and because of that the council could not simply remove him from office.

Mayor Jimmy Wilbanks posted Reeves’ letter, first received as a text on May 1, on the city’s website this week:

“Effective May 1, 2014 Due to requirements of City Code that an elected person must live within the City corporate limits, I hereby tender my resignation as a member of the City Council. I have moved out of the City as of May 1, 2014.”

Wilbanks accepted the resignation. “Upon the advice and consent of the City Council, I will declare the post held by Mr. Reeves to be vacant,” he posted.

The Council will appoint a replacement for the remainder of Reeves’ term (until December 2017).
