For the second time in less than three years, the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners will be asked to decide if the Jehovah's Witnesses will be allowed to build a church on their Dacula property.

The special use permit request is scheduled to go before the county commission on Tuesday, Oct. 22. The request was originally set to be heard in September, but the issue was tabled in order to give neighbors and the applicants more time to discuss concerns about the proposed church location.

In September, the Gwinnett County Planning Commission voted 8-0 to recommend approval for the special use permit which would allow the Jehovah's Witnesses to build a 5,000-square-foot church on their property located in the 1500 block of Ace McMillian Road

The vote was the second time the planning commission has recommended the request be approved. In 2011, however, the request failed to muster enough support at the county commission level and the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners voted 3-1 to deny the request.

The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners meets at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center, 75 Langley Drive in Lawrenceville. The Oct. 22 meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

Patch, why to you permit bigoted, hate-filled posts from religious zealots? The JW's seem to have complied with every requirement imposed upon them by local government in an attempt to build a new church. They have just as many rights granted by the U.S. Constitution as those who disagree with their beliefs. Don't understand the hate in some "good religious folks' " hearts."

This is how we find people who are "good religious folks'. Most of the derogatory comments about Witnesses are from those removed from the JW organization. Removed because they want to continue to be fornicators, adulterers, liars. The Witnesses are the only group that handles problems in a Biblical way as the above link shows.

Let them build the building only if they agree to stop going door to door and harassing people.

Exactly Lynn, but only your religion. Too much hate.

Harry, I guess you would say the same to our Lord, Jesus if you could. We only wish you the best.
