Local Tea Party Group Issues Statement

Chairman and founder says Gwinnett group has not endorsed Costa.

A recent Tea Party award has created some confusion in the local political scene according to Steve Ramey, chairman and founder of The Founding Fathers Tea Party Patriots.

Last week, a Facebook post by the Libertarian Party of Georgia, indicated had been awarded the George Washington Honesty in Government Award by the State of Georgia Tea Party LLC.

In the release, the award is described as one “given to candidates that best embrace an understanding of our Founding Father principles of limited and honest government.”

Ramey said the use of the words “Founding Father principles” could lead some to believe his group has endorsed Costa.

“The Founding Fathers Tea Party Patriots wanted to make perfectly clear this was not an endorsement by The Founding Fathers for Will Costa,” Ramey said.

Ramey added that his group, which he estimates numbers 100 or more active members, does not endorse candidates.

Ramey said he felt it was important to clarify that his group is an entirely separate entity from the State of Georgia Tea Party.

The Founding Fathers Tea Party Patriots meets on the first Thursday of every month in Lawrenceville. For more information, visit their website at http://fftpp.weebly.com.
