Park Improvements to Include Landscaping, Site Leveling

Additional improvements will improve site drainage and help delineate park from adjacent property.

As work continues on the , the Dacula City Council is considering additional improvements to the property.

During the March 29 work session, public works supervisor Mike Moon presented several ideas for the park space to help improve both the appearance and function of the property while delineating it from the . The work would include construction of a retaining wall, leveling of the lot and landscaping

The improvements, if approved by city council, are expected to cost less than $5,000 and will be funded through SPLOST. The Dacula City Council will vote on the proposed improvements during the April 5 council meeting.

During Thursday night's work session, council also discussed naming the city park. No decision was made regarding how the name should be chosen. The name will be decided prior to the park dedication ceremony, which is expected to coincide with the city's .

  • City Administrator Jim Osborn reviewed the new Georgia Emergency Management Agency statewide mutual aid and assistance agreement. The agreement, which will run through 2016, provides financial assistance to participating governments in the event of an official declaration of a natural or manmade disaster. Council will decide whether to approve the agreement on April 5.
  • proposed holding a town hall meeting regarding the upcoming Transportation Investment Act referendum. Voters will decide July 31 whether or not to approve a 1 percent sales tax or TSPLOST to fund transportation projects. The town hall meeting would provide citizens the opportunity to ask questions regarding how  and would likely be held mid-July.
  • Mayor Wilbanks also announced that Pam Wells will serve as the city's volunteer events coordinator. One of the first events scheduled is an April 9 art exhibit at . The exhibit will feature works by students.
