Park Land Condemnation on Agenda

The Dacula City Council will discuss a resolution approving the exercise of eminent domain to condemn the tenth-acre tract of land near the corner of Second Avenue and Wilson Street during its Feb. 24 work session.

The property owner, Sam Hinton, has refused several purchase offers from the city. In November, the council voted to begin the legal process to condemn and take the property for use as a city park.

and gazebo once located near the railroad tracks in downtown Dacula. The city was forced to demolish the gazebo in June 2009 due to its encroachment on the CSX railroad right-of-way.

The city council will also receive an update on the . The project calls for creating a two-way entrance at the intersection of Second Avenue and Dacula Road. As planned, the project would allow traffic to turn right onto Second Avenue and would allow motorists to turn right only off Second Avenue onto Dacula Road.

Other items on Thursday’s work session agenda include a review of bids for a leaf/chipper truck for the street department and a resolution authorizing a partnership with the Georgia Department of Revenue to ensure sales tax collection from City of Dacula Businesses.
