Robinson, Wells Take Oath of Office

New year begins with committee appointments, one planning and zoning case.

The Dacula City Council kicked off 2012 by certifying the results of the Dec. 6 runoff between Hubert Wells and .

Wells, the winner of the runoff, and , who ran unopposed, were sworn in during Thursday night's Dacula City Council meeting (see video).

With a full slate of duly sworn officials, the council began work by unanimously approving a rezoning request for property located at 1271 Harbins Road in Dacula. The owner of the property, Lloyd DeLatour of , had requested a 3-acre portion of his property be rezoned from office-institutional unit to agricultural district. Dacula City Planner Joey Murphy said the planning department was in favor of the rezoning and expected no adverse impacts.

OTHER BUSINESS

Several appointments were made during the Jan. 5 council meeting. Sue Robinson will serve as mayor pro tempore in 2012 and Pastor Duke Forster of will be the city chaplain.

The council also appointed members to the planning and zoning board. Trey King, Betty Hale, Randy Franklin, Paul Sims and Kim Jones will serve on the board in 2012.

In other committee appointments, appointed Sue Robinson to the finance, parks and recreation and Marshal's Office committees; to the building inspections and site development committees; Hubert Wells to the sanitation and maintenance and building improvement committees and to the planning commission committee and the streets, alleys and sidewalks committee.

The council also recertified the City of Dacula ethics ordinance and approved the Georgia municipal employees benefit system restated defined benefit retirement plan adoption agreement.
