Storage Building, Outdoor Storage Requests Get Green Light

Request for tire/automotive store rezoning and special use permit is withdrawn.

Two of the three cases on the Dec. 3 Gwinnett County Planning Commission will move forward, a third was withdrawn at the request of the applicant.

The commission unanimously recommended approval for a request to construct a 2,400-square-foot metal storage building on property located in the 2000 block of Winder Highway.

The applicant, Jimmy Hood, said he has lived on the property since 1979 and has "accumulated a lot of things."

"I just want a place to put them," he said.

The building, according to county documents, will house motor vehicles, lawn care equipment and ATVs.

The planning commission also unanimously recommended approval for two rezoning requests related to property in the 5300 block of Braselton Highway. The applicant, GP's Enterprises, has been using the property for outdoor storage for six years according to company representative Marian Adeimy.

Adeimy said the outdoor storage area is well screened and has not had any negative impact on traffic or surrounding properties. Without the rezoning, Adeimy added, the property would have no economic use for the owner.

As part of the planning commission's recommendation for approval, the applicant must not expand the area of outdoor storage beyond the existing boundaries.

The storage building and outdoor storage cases will go before the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners on Dec. 17.

A rezoning request and a related special use permit request which would have allowed the construction of a tire/automotive store on Gravel Springs Road were withdrawn at the request of the applicant and denied without prejudice.
