Sunday Sales, Tornado Siren on Work Session Agenda

City leaders to discuss siren repairs and fall referendum to allow Sunday sales and Sunday sales of liquor by the drink.

An inoperative tornado siren and alcohol sales will be the primary topics of discussion during the May 26 Dacula City Council work session.

Council leaders will discuss . The first issue is whether the city should hold a referendum this fall regarding the Sunday sales of alcohol in grocery and liquor stores.

Voters may also get to choose whether to allow Sunday sales of liquor by the drink within the city limits. Restaurants within the city limits are currently prohibited from serving liquor by the drink on Sundays. While the county allows such sales, the City of Dacula does not.

During the April 28 work session,  in the fall and planned to vote on the ballot items during the May 5 council meeting. However, the vote was delayed in order to allow city attorney Dennis Still enough time to research the proper wording for the referendums.

City leaders will also discuss issues related to the repair of the Dacula’s inoperative tornado siren. Due to the age of the system, acquiring parts and service for repairs has been challenging, officials have said previously.

The only other item on Thursday’s work session agenda is a rezoning case for property located on Tanner Road. The applicant wishes to rezone the nearly 12-acre parcel from single family residential to agricultural district for family residential and agricultural use.

The council meets at , located at 442 Harbins Road in Dacula. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
