The City of Dacula’s tornado siren should be repaired within the next two to three weeks according to Dacula City Administrator Jim Osborn.
At Thursday night’s city council work session, Osborn said the company contracted to handle the repairs, Whelan, has been busy working in tornado-ravaged parts of Alabama and northwest Georgia. The company has several projects to complete before it turns its attention to repairing Dacula’s siren.

Osborn also gave council members an update on two pending construction projects.

The second construction project entails site work and construction of the city’s new maintenance facility. Osborn said both the building plans and site development plans are complete.
Both projects will be fully funded with SPLOST proceeds. The council will decide July 7 whether to authorize the city to advertise for construction bids for the proposed work.
Council is also scheduled to vote July 7 on resolutions to appoint Kay Partain as both the 2011 election superintendent and absentee ballot clerk and Jim Osborn and Charlyne Fuller as the assistant election superintendents and assistant absentee ballot clerks. Council will also set the number of qualifying days for the 2011 election. Typically, the City of Dacula has a three-day qualifying period. The qualifying period is scheduled to begin August 29.
In other business, council discussed the ongoing Stanley Road sewer project. Osborn said the city has acquired all but two easements -- one a permanent sewer easement, the other a temporary construction easement. Osborn said the property owners are currently refusing to cooperate.
