Woodall Responds to Medicare Concerns

Congressman addresses questions raised at weekend town hall meetings.

After being in Dacula, U.S. Rep. Rob Woodall (R-GA-07) released a video statement to clarify issues related to the Republican proposal to reform Medicare.

“One of the most important issues that came up in our meetings was the Medicare reforms found in ‘The Path to Prosperity’ budget plan,” Woodall wrote in an email to constituents.  “We had a very productive discussion and for those who weren't able to be there and still might have questions about how exactly the House's Medicare reforms will affect you and your children, I have recorded the following video message in order to better explain how the ‘Path to Prosperity’ is a solution that all Americans can support.”

The remarks were quickly seized upon by a host of national news commentators. The following day, Woodall was once again criticized after the .

According to GOP lawmakers, would not affect those currently 55 years of age or older. Under the proposal, eligible recipients would receive a federal voucher or subsidy for use towards the purchase of a private insurance plan. If the reform proposal is enacted, private insurers -- not the federal government -- would issue payments for medical care and compete for business from those covered under the plan.
