Woodall Votes Against Taxpayer Funded Abortions

Legislation would prohibit federal funding of abortions under most circumstances.

On May 4, Rep. Rob Woodall (R-GA-07) voted in favor of establishing a government-wide prohibition on funding abortions except in cases of rape, incest or when a woman’s life is in danger. The legislation, H.R. 3, passed the United States House of Representatives by a 251-175 margin.

“For over 30 years, a variety of policies have regulated federal funding of abortions, but thanks to this bipartisan comprehensive bill, American taxpayer dollars will no longer fund the abortion industry,” Woodall said in a released statement.

Woodall said he was committed to “defending the defenseless and protecting the lives of precious, unborn children” and argued that federal abortion funding should be cut.

“During this economic crisis when the federal government is borrowing forty-two cents of every dollar it spends, surely we can agree as a nation that abortions are not a national priority requiring this borrowing,” he said.

Woodall said the fight against abortion is not over, but described H.R. 3 as a “huge step in the right direction, ensuring that no American is forced to fund the abortion industry.”
