The White House hopes Americans will not only tune in, but also participate in the 2014 State of the Union address. President Obama will deliver the annual address on Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 9 p.m.

This year, an enhanced version of President Obama's speech including graphics, data and statistics will be live streamed on the White House Facebook, YouTube and Google+ pages. The event will also be available for viewing using the White House mobile apps

After the speech, a live "Open for Questions" event will be streamed on the White House State of the Union page. According to a post on the White House website, citizens will have the chance to ask questions and hear responses from a panel of senior White House advisors. Questions can be posted now and during the speech on Twitter, Vine, Instagram, Google+ and Facebook using the hashtag #SOTUChat.

With President Obama's approval ratings near an all-time low, the State of the Union address is an opportunity for the administration to shift the public's focus from recent problems to what lies ahead and avoid prematurely settling in to the "lame duck" portion of the Obama presidency.

"On Tuesday night, the President will lay out a set of real, concrete, practical proposals to grow the economy, strengthen the middle class, and empower all who hope to join it," Assistant to the President and Senior Advisor Dan Pfeiffer wrote in a post on WhiteHouse.gov.
