Stars and Strikes Gets 'A' on Follow-up Restaurant Inspection

The Dacula eatery failed a routine inspection on July 17.

Stars and Strikes, located at 1700 Winder Highway, improved its restaurant inspection score by 37 points in nine days.

The eatery scored a 55 and a grade of 'U' on a July 17 routine inspection. Among other violations, rodent droppings were found in a cabinet, black slime was found in the ice machine and an employee was observed using an apron to wipe hands after handling raw chicken.

On July 26, health officials returned to conduct a follow-up inspection.  This time, a score of 92 was achieved, earning the restaurant an 'A.'

The inspector noted the following observations and corrective actions on the follow-up report, which is posted on the Gwinnett, Newton, Rockdale Health Departments website:

  • Violation of Code: [.04(6)(g) ] Refrigerated, ready-to-eat, potentially hazardous food prepared and held in the establishment for more than 24 hours (i.e., dirty rice, white rice) not clearly marked to indicate the date by which the food must be consumed, sold, or discarded. Had facility date mark food properly.   • Violation of Code: [.10(2)(g) ] Most recent inspection report not posted. Must post most recent inspection report.  New Violation. 
  • Violation of Code: [.05(7)(a)2,3 ] Grease build up on fryer baskets. Food label residue on exterior of multiple food storage containers. The food-contact surfaces of cooking equipment and pans shall be kept free of encrusted grease deposits and other soil accumulations. Nonfood-contact surfaces of equipment shall be kept free of an accumulation of dust, dirt, food debris.  New Violation. 
  • Violation of Code: [.06(2)(c) ] Water not reaching 100 deg. f at front two handwashing sinks. ensure water reaches at least 100 deg. F. **Ran water for some time.  New Violation.     
  • Additional routine due in 30-60 days. IF FACILITY MAKES A U ON THE NEXT ROUTINE INSPECTION, THEN THE FACILITY WILL BE ASKED TO VOLUNTARILY CLOSE (TEMPORARILY), OR THE FOOD SERVICE PERMIT MAY BE SUSPENDED.
