Back to School: Supplies, Tax-Free Shopping, Meal Prices and More

Gwinnett County public school students go back to class on August 7. Are you and your children ready?

By Patch Editor Joy Woodson

In about three weeks, thousands of school children living in Gwinnett County will be headed back to school. Here's a few things parents need to know.

First Day of School:
The first day back for students is Wednesday, Aug. 7. Teachers are required back a week earlier, July 31. The first holiday is Labor Day, Sept. 2. (Click here for the entire 2013-2014 school calendar.)

Meal Prices Higher:
Do not forget that school meal prices have increased. Elementary school lunch is $2.25, and middle school and high school lunch is $2.50. (Apply online for free or reduced meals.)

Supply Lists:
Most likely your child's school has supply lists available. We've listed several below. If your child's school is not listed here, check the school's website, or call the front office.

Tax-Free Weekend:
Georgia's tax-free weekend is August 9-10. Gwinnett County students will already be back in school, but parents may be able to hold off on big purchases until then. Clothing with a sales price of $100 or less per item is included.
