Dacula, Mill Creek High Schools Recognized as AP Honor Schools

State Superintendent of Schools Dr. John Barge names all Gwinnett County public high schools as 2012 Advanced Placement Honor Schools.

and were honored this week for their achievements in Advanced Placement coursework participation.

“Georgia has much to be proud of when it comes to the success of Advanced Placement. Much of this success can be attributed to the dedication to rigor and excellence at each of our AP Honor Schools,” said State Superintendent of Schools Dr. John Barge in a released statement.

Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) accounted for 19 of the 367 schools honored statewide. Several GCPS schools, including Dacula High School and Mill Creek High School, were recognized in more than one category.

Both Dacula and Mill Creek were recognized as AP STEM Schools. These schools have students testing in at least two AP Mathematics courses and two AP Science courses.

Dacula High School was also recognized as an AP Access and Support School (schools in which 30 percent of AP test takers identify themselves as African-American and/or Hispanic and in which test takers score a “3” or higher on at least 30 percent of all AP exams). Additionally, Dacula was named an AP Merit School (schools in which at 20 percent of the student population takes AP exams and at least 50 percent of the AP exams are scored “3” or higher).

Dacula and Mill Creek were also named AP STEM Achievement Schools (schools with students testing in at least two AP Mathematics courses and two AP science courses and at least 40 percent of the exam scores on AP Mathematics and AP science exams are “3”or higher.)

Students who score “3” or higher on the AP exams may receive college credit for those courses. The 2012 AP Honor Schools were selected based on results from 2010-2011 AP classes and exams.
