Teachers vs. Bus Drivers

Alcova Elementary will host a Relay for Life basketball game between school faculty members and bus drivers of Dacula cluster schools on Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. in the Alcova Elementary gym. Tickets are $1 and proceeds benefit Relay for Life.

Mill Creek has an app for that

The Mill Creek Cluster is using a mobile app to keep the community up on what’s going on at its nine schools. The free app will be available on Feb. 28 on the Apple App Store and Google Play. With the app, users can get instant updates, event calendars, faculty and staff contact info, school menus, student tools like assignment management and school safety tipline, and much more.

Early Releases Next Week

Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 26 and 27, are early release days for elementary- and middle-school students in Gwinnett to accommodate parent-teacher conferences.

Economics TOY Finalist

Colleen McGiboney of Puckett’s Mill Elementary was a finalist for Georgia Economics Teacher of the Year. She will be honored by the Georgia Council on Economic Education at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta on May 13. For more information, visit www.gcee.org.

Students at Alcova Elementary in Dacula will celebrate the 16th Annual National Education Association’s (NEA) Read Across America Day with some special guest readers: Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners Chairman Charlotte Nash on Feb. 24, and Dr. John Barge, State Superintendent of Schools, and Dacula Mayor Jimmy Wilbanks on March 3.
