As a winter storm moved into the metro Atlanta area earlier today, Gwinnett County Public Schools officials took a wait and see approach regarding early dismissal.

GCPS posted the following on the school system's Facebook page this morning:

GCPS is having school today. Leaders continue to monitor the weather and road conditions. If there is a decision regarding the school day or afterschool activities, we will post it here, on the website, and notify metro news media outlets.

At approximately 12:30 p.m., GCPS posted the following update:

All Gwinnett County Public Schools' afterschool and evening activities are cancelled for tonight.

Neighboring Barrow County Schools made a decision this morning to release students early in anticipation of inclement weather moving into the area.

Gwinnett County is currently under a winter storm warning. The warning will be in effect from 9 a.m. Tuesday until 7 a.m. Wednesday. Snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches are possible.

I don't think they could stage the buses quickly enough to get the students home early at this point do you? High school will be out within the hour anyway.

So they're going to make all of the teenage drivers wait until the roads deteriorate before they let them go? Kids were sliding off the road everywhere in Cobb County trying to get home.

The decision makers knew there was a winter storm warning in effect for the entire day. It is sad that they would risk even one life just so that they can make more money off of the system.

The drivers are welcome to ride the bus if it is a safety issue.
