GCPS TV Receives Two Emmy Awards

A quick look at what is happening in the lives of Dacula students and inside our local schools.

Gwinnett County Public School Television (GCPS TV) has received two Emmy Awards for “Love That Book.” The Gwinnett County School System was declared a winner at the 37th Annual Southeast Regional EMMY Awards Gala on June 18 in Atlanta. “Love That Book” is a show in which students take a reading adventure and explore a featured book, a cool new book and an oldie but goodie book. The show features GCPS TV staff, Gwinnett students and local personalities.

In College News:

  • The following students from our hometown of Dacula recently earned placement on the Spring 2011 Dean’s List at Georgia Southern University: Brooke Bedgood, Cameron Brannen, Chelsea Butcher, Cole Breyette, Courtney Weider, Drew Baker, Elizabeth Todd, Jessica Brower, John Cobb, Jonnie Guthrie, Kaitlin Stringer, Mary Matheny, Megan Micheletti, Melanie Weisman, Nicholas Pavlichek, Nyonnohweah Seekie, Patrick Cavanaugh, Shelbi Andrews

  • Congratulations to Lean Smith from Dacula who recently earned a spot on the intercollegiate competitive cheerleading team the “Golden Tigers” from Brenau University. This is the inaugural season for the Golden Tigers. Brenau University currently competes in the NAIA conference and ranks nationally in other sports.

In Local School News:

students have set the following scholarship records for the 2010-2011 school year. Great Job students!

  • 166 seniors earned at least one scholarship
  • 319 total scholarships(excluding Hope) were earned this year
  • 4 service academy appointments were made
  • 718 students were on target to graduate
  • 687 students are attending post-secondary schools
  • 627 students are attending four year colleges
  • $12,957,080 in scholarship money was earned by students
