Life's a Balancing Act for Colorguard Member

Megan Leahy participates in colorguard activities while excelling academically.

Mill Creek senior Megan Leahy is learning the art of balancing life activities at a young age. As a Pride of Marching Band colorguard member, life is all about juggling practice and school work.

“Between practices three days a week, games on Friday night and practices or competitions on Saturdays, it doesn't leave a lot of time for socializing,” Leahy’s mom Lily Leahy said.

Colorguard members combine dance and the use of props as part of a theatrical presentation to accompany the performance of the band. The highly choreographed routines require hours of practice.

Leahy is a dedicated member of the colorguard, but she also enjoys learning and is determined to do well in school. According to her mother, she is very enthusiastic about her academics. Leahy is an honor student in the top 10 percent of her class and is an AP scholar. She plans to study journalism and history in college.

You can see Leahy and The Pride of Mill Creek performing at halftime every Friday night at Mill Creek Community Stadium or at a high school near you. In addition, band competitions will begin on Saturdays in October.
