Mill Creek Student Headed to National Competition

student Hayley Dianne Fowler finished second in the recent Georgia Health Occupations Student Organization state competition. Fowler took technical education courses in the healthcare science program at Maxwell High School of Technology during the 2010-2011 school year. Fowler will now move on to compete and represent her school and state in the national competition which will be held June 22-25 in Anaheim, Calif. at the HOSA Conference. Fowler is competing in the physical therapy category.

Local School News:

  • Congratulations to Grace Liu of who was recently named state winner for the National Honor Society Scholarship program. Liu will receive $1,500 for this honor.
  • Welcome to Dr. Tim Anderson, new high school principal.
  • Congratulations to “Georgia Young Authors Winners: Emma S., Christina G., Lauren M., Cassidy H., Danielle W., Thomas S.
  • Thank you to Gwinnett Clinic owners Drs. Meena and J.J. Shah, who in conjunction with the Gwinnett County Public Schools Foundation Fund Inc., sponsored the Award for Excellence in Academics Scholarship. Nineteen valedictorians from Gwinnett County Public Schools each received scholarships in the amount of $300.
  • Congratulations to students Lisa Kim, Sunyoung Wang and Guillermo Bautista who recently attended the Intel Science and Engineering Fair in Los Angeles.

Upcoming School Events:

  • is hosting a 2011 summer art camp. This camp is scheduled for June 13 and June 23. Each two-week session will run from Monday-Thursday and will introduce students to various styles and phases of art. Students will work with special mediums including clay, plaster craft, watercolors, pastels and more.   • Free summer remediation classes for those needing to retake one or more sections of the state-required Georgia High School Graduation Tests/Georgia High School Writing Test will be offered on Monday, June 27 through Friday, July 8. Please note that Monday, July 4 is a holiday. Classes will be meeting daily Monday-Friday. Remediation classes and summer retests will take place at Phoenix High School in Lawrenceville. A list of times for these classes can be found on the Gwinnett County Public School website. Registration for summer remediation classes will be at Phoenix High School on Wednesday, June 22 (8 a.m. until 7 p.m.) and Thursday, June 23 (7 a.m. until 6 p.m.)
  • Several local schools are offering Kinder-camps to rising kindergarteners. Kinder-camps will be held at our area elementary schools and are only open to students registered to attend kindergarten at the school where the camp is being held. The Kinder-camp schedule is as follows:June 20-23 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. (Call 678-226-7460 for more information); July 11-14 from 8:30 a.m. until 12 p.m. Call 678-376-8500 for more information); andJuly 25-28 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. Call 770-932-7400 for more information.
