Turner and Ko Lead Mill Creek Class of 2011

Seniors, Mill Creek High School

Accomplishments: senior Lee Turner is the Class of 2011 valedictorian and Jasmine Ko is the Class of 2011 salutatorian.

Key to Success: Turner is heading to the University of Georgia in the fall to study biochemistry and microbiology. The science enthusiast will be heading to Athens having received a $3,000 Presidential Scholarship and the Maxxis Valedictorian Scholarship of $500.

Turner plans to start a career as an orthopedic surgeon after college and, even with his career goals and strong academic performance, Turner has shown his well-rounded nature during his years at Mill Creek. He is the captain of the varsity tennis team and a peer facilitator of the Spanish Honor Society. Turner has also been awarded a Georgia certificate of merit.

Jasmine Ko, Mill Creek High School’s 2011 salutatorian, will be attending Emory University to major in pre-medicine. Ko has also been awarded multiple scholarships which include a $1,000 UGA Charter Scholarship, a $1,000 scholarship from First Intercontinental Bank and a $500 Maxxis Salutatorian Scholarship.

Ko’s aspirations for her time at Emory include graduating with a medical degree in oncology. Her exceptional amount of school activities at Mill Creek have included Beta Club, Teaching Advanced Leadership and Opening Networks, National Honor Society, Tri-M Music National Honor Society, Latin Club, Music National Honor Society, Academic Decathlon, Chamber Orchestra, and the President’s Club.

The AP Scholar with distinction is also involved in the Gwinnett County community as a member of the Gwinnett County Youth Symphony.
