Two Dacula area schools are among four in Gwinnett County that have been named 2012 Georgia Schools of Excellence by the Georgia Department of Education.

This year, the schools were evaluated using the state’s new College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI), according to a news release from Gwinnett County Public Schools.

Osborne Middle made the list in the “Highest Progress” category while Mulberry Elementary schools was honored in the “Highest Performance” category.

It's the first time Mulberry Elementary has been recognized as a Georgia School of Excellence.

“We are honored to be among those recognized,” says Principal Vivian
Stranahan in a released statement. “The award is an affirmation of the innovative work of our teachers and the support of our parents and community. It is a celebration of our children and their successes. As with all schools in Gwinnett, we enjoy a clearly defined curriculum, and teachers employ instructional strategies that engage kids and challenge them to think and to communicate their learning.”

Osborne Middle has previously received the recognition.

The other two Gwinnett County schools on the list are Harris Elementary and Head Elementary.

The honorees will receive a $1,000 monetary award from Georgia Natural Gas. United Healthcare also serves as a sponsor for the state program.
