Sunday Package Store Liquor Sales to Begin in Dacula This Weekend

Dacula Cork and Bottle will open for the first Sunday of package store liquor sales at 12:30 p.m. on Nov. 10.

Now that the results of the Nov. 5 referendum have been certified and the city alcohol ordinance amended, Dacula's sole liquor store will be open for business on Sunday.

Russ Weaver, owner of Dacula Cork and Bottle, said his store will be open from 12:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 10 -- the first Sunday during which packaged sales of distilled spirits will be allowed in Dacula. The amended alcohol ordinance goes into effect Saturday, Nov. 9.

In 2011, Dacula voters passed a referendum allowing the sale of beer and wine on Sundays in grocery and convenience stores. Voters also passed a referendum allowing Sunday sales of liquor by the drink. At the time, there was no liquor store in Dacula and the issue of whether or not to allow the sale of distilled packaged spirits on Sundays did not go before the voters.

However, after voters passed a referendum to allow a package store within the city limits in 2012, a referendum related to Sunday sales of distilled spirits became necessary. That referendum, held this past week, passed by a scant one-vote margin.

Dacula Cork and Bottle is located at 2200 Hurricane Shoals Road. For more information about the store, visit Dacula Cork and Bottle on Facebook.
