Young Dacula Athlete Excels at Several Sports

At a young age Kimberly Harris has proved to be an outstanding athlete at not just one, but three sports!

At just 10 years of age, Kimberly Harris has proven to be an amazing athlete. Her hard work and determination have led her to excel in several sports. Harris plays striker and forward for Dacula Soccer Club U10 Academy team coached by Jeff Tinklepaugh. She is also a point guard for the Mill Creek Athletic Association basketball team coached by Scott Stone and she runs the 100-, 200-, and 400-meter events for the Jackrabbit Track and Field Clinic coached by Andre Al-ghani.

“Kimberly loves to win and works hard each day to accomplish her goals,” her mom, Cortina Harris, explained. “She sets a goal for herself and pushes herself to reach the goal. She is super athletic but plays with heart. She will not give up and says constantly that if ‘they can do it, I can do it but better.’”

Her many achievements include winning the U10 Georgia Soccer Association Invitational; runner-up in the U10 Mill Creek Athletic Association basketball; and at the 2011 AAU national Junior Olympics she ranked sixth in the 200-meter dash, sixth in 400-meter dash and fourth in the 4x100 meter relay. Most recently, Kimberly received the female athlete award for her age group at the Girls Bantam track meet on May 27.

“Kimberly thanks God for her athletic gifts and prays before each event that she uses it the way He wants her to use it,” Harris said.

Kimberly is a talented individual star athlete, but she is also a team player.

“She is not a selfish player and will more often than most provide an assist to a player if that is what's needed to win,” Harris said. “She is also not timid about scoring herself. When she is on a team sport she pulls together as a team but knows when she steps out on the track it is just her against the other opponents.”

In addition to her athletic abilities, Kimberly works hard academically and is involved in several other extracurricular activities.

“Kimberly has received either A or A/B honor since she has been in school,” Harris said. “She has received the principal award several times. She is also involved in Girl Scouts, took piano, and is actively involved in her youth group at church.”
