College Football Scores: SEC Week 10

Better late than never.

No. 1 Alabama executed a flawless two-minute drill to snatch a 21-17 victory from the jaws of defeat Saturday night in Death Valley.

No. 5 LSU played what was arguably their best game of the season despite some questionable calls from the Mad Hatter. The Tigers (7-2) outgained, outpassed and outperformed the Tide for much of the night, but, when push came to shove, Alabama (9-0) quarterback A.J. McCarron and the Tide offensive line stepped up and got the job done on a late fourth-quarter 72-yard touchdown drive.

“With Alabama's hopes of a second straight national title slipping away, McCarron shook off a dismal second half and guided his team right down the field. He read an LSU blitz and flipped a screen pass to T.J. Yeldon, who did the rest on a 28-yard touchdown with 51 seconds remaining that gave the top-ranked Tide a 21-17 victory over No. 5 LSU,” ESPN reported.

The Tide will face another big test next week as Johnny Football and the Aggies come to Tuscaloosa. LSU hosts Mississippi State.

No. 16 Texas A&M 38, No. 15 Mississippi State 13 – Johnny “Football” Manziel and the Aggies put on an impressive display for a disheartened crowd in Starkville. Texas A&M (7-2) handed the Bulldogs (7-2) their second consecutive loss in a 38-13 thrashing. “The No. 16 Aggies dominated from start to finish, built a 24-0 lead at halftime and were never threatened by a Bulldogs team that couldn't do anything to stop the Aggies' offense, led by quarterback Johnny Manziel,” SB Nation reported. Manziel racked up more than 400 yards of total offense for the day – 311 in the air and 129 on the ground. Next week, the Aggies head to Tuscaloosa to take on the top-ranked Crimson Tide. Mississippi State heads to Baton Rouge to take on the LSU Tigers.

Missouri 7, No. 7 Florida 14 – Missouri (4-5) threatened -- and even led 7-0 at halftime -- but was unable to pull off the upset against the Florida Gators (8-1). “Trailing by seven, the Tigers advanced to Gator territory three times in the fourth quarter, only to fall apart because of a combination of sacks, missed throws and poor decision-making that ultimately contributed to a 14-7 loss,” the Kansas City Star reported. Missouri plays at Tennessee next week and Florida hosts the Ragin’ Cajuns of Louisiana Lafayette.

Vanderbilt 40, Kentucky 0 – Kentucky (1-9) remains winless in the SEC after an absolute schellacking by the Commodores (5-4). According to the Sports Network, “Five different Vanderbilt players scored touchdowns, as the Commodores rolled to a 40-0 win over the Kentucky Wildcats in Southeastern Conference play at Commonwealth Stadium.” Kentucky’s next game will be Nov. 17 against Samford. Vanderbilt will play Nov. 10 at Ole Miss.

Tennessee 55, Troy 48 – Tennessee (4-5) narrowly escaped a homecoming upset against a scrappy Troy team. “On a homecoming day when thousands of fans and defenses failed to show up, Tennessee came up with two quick-strike touchdowns in the final 2:54 and somehow escaped with a 55-48 win over upset-minded Troy at Neyland Stadium,” the Chattanoogan reported. Next up for the Volunteers: Missouri at home.

Tulsa 15, Arkansas 19 – Arkansas (4-5) continues to struggle, but managed to hold off Tulsa despite trailing 15-13 in the second half. According to Fox News, “The Golden Hurricane had a chance to extend that lead late in the third quarter after driving to the Arkansas 5, but quarterback Cody Green's fourth-down pass was batted down after coach Bill Blankenship elected to bypass the short field goal attempt.” From there, the Razorbacks launched a touchdown drive that would secure the victory. Arkansas final three games of the regular season promise to be tough ones. Next week, the Razorbacks face No. 8 South Carolina before finishing the season with games against Mississippi State and LSU.

Auburn 42, New Mexico State 7 – The good news for Auburn fans is that the Tigers (2-7) snapped a 5-game losing streak. The bad news is that they needed to play a 1-8 New Mexico State team to do it. “The Tigers' 7-0 lead at halftime was their first since going up 10-9 on No. 5 LSU on Sept. 22,” Yahoo Sports reported. The Tigers will have a few days to relish the thrill of victory before the agony of defeat likely returns as the No. 6 Georgia Bulldogs come to town.

Ole Miss 10, No. 6 Georgia 37 – “Although Georgia had a slow start, they ended up coming back to beat Ole Miss with 37 unanswered points,” Patch blogger Alex Reed wrote. “Aaron Murray quite possibly had one of his best games all season in my opinion, finishing up with 384 passing yards with a 75 percent completion percentage. Freshman Todd Gurley also ran for 117 yards.” Georgia (8-1) travels to Auburn next week, Ole Miss (5-4) hosts Vanderbilt.
