Vanderhorst Expected to Be One of This Year’s Star Players
Coach John Poitevint shares details on a solid player with great potential.
Senior Travis Vanderhorst is expected to be a star player on the varsity baseball team this season.
“Travis is one of our star players this year,” Coach John Poitevint said. “He is a senior who has played all four years here, and this is his second year on varsity. Travis was a starter a year ago on our team that was probably one of the most successful here at Dacula. Last year he was one of our key players, he was an all region player and I expect he will be again.”
Vanderhorst has a great attitude and is a player that will do whatever it takes.

“He is our leading hitter right now,” Poitevint said, “and he is a player that works awfully hard everyday to get better. He has a great attitude and is a great leader. He will do whatever you ask. If I were to ask him to play any position, he would do it. He played outfield last year and is playing first basemen this year. He also pitches a little bit for me. He has not pitched up until this year, and he has done really well for us so far. He can play anywhere on the field -- literally.”
Coach Poitevint says that Vanderhorst deserves recognition as the athlete of the week because he is such a solid player.
