Dacula Native at Appalachian State On Doak Walker Award List

Marcus Cox set freshman rushing records last season at running back.

Appalachian State running back Marcus Cox of Dacula is one of 53 preseason candidates for the 2014 Doak Walker Award, the school said in a press release.

Cox, who played at Dacula High School, is a sophomore at App State.

The Doak Walker Award is given annually to college football’s top running back.

Cox set Appalachian State freshman records for rushing yards (1,250) and touchdowns (21). He had 1,809 all-purpose yards and finished second for the Jerry Rice Award, given to the freshman player of the year in NCAA Division I FCS.

The Mountaineers open their 2014 season Aug. 30 at Michigan.
