DHS Wrestler Signs with Darton

Reynolds to begin practice with the Cavaliers this summer.

Aaron Reynolds has perhaps a greater appreciation for social media than most.

The senior said his scholarship offer to Darton College in Albany was made possible in part by Facebook. Josh Watts, the wrestling coach at Darton, searched for and found Reynolds on the social networking site after seeing videos online of Reynolds wrestling.

“He found me on Facebook, we exchanged numbers and he called me up,” Reynolds said. “That’s how it all got started.”

This summer, Reynolds will head to Albany to begin practicing with the Cavaliers. Reynolds said he is excited about the opportunity to wrestle at the collegiate level.

“When I first started, [wrestling] was just a distraction from football,” he said. Soon however, Reynolds, who also ran track, discovered a love for the sport.

“Then I got really serious,” he said.

By his sophomore year, Reynolds was determined to make it as a college wrestler.

This past year, Reynolds was a state runner-up in the 145-pound weight class. He was also the region 8-AAAAA champion in his weight class.

Dacula head coach Wes Cooper has been coaching Reynolds for the past four years and describes him as one of the best wrestlers in the state.

“He’s just a well-rounded kid,” Cooper said. “He’s a good kid and a hard worker.”

Cooper said Reynolds will do well at the next level due to his ability to excel in the classroom and on the mat. Cooper also said Reynolds has a natural instinct that sets him apart from other wrestlers.

“He’s a great athlete. He’s just got a lot of natural ability,” Cooper said. “I’m ready to see what the future holds for him and watch him develop at the college level.”
