Dacula Soccer Club Coach Working to Help Players Achieve Goals

Dacula Soccer Club coach Karl Hedley, is determined to provide a local opportunity for aspiring young soccer athletes to achieve their goals.

“In the recent past DSC has not had a U14 girls select team for several reasons and this has meant girls from Dacula are traveling past the club to go to other soccer clubs,” Hedley said. “We are going to be having a U14-U15 select team this coming fall season and we need as many players to come and tryout as possible.”

The select teams are a tremendous opportunity for both boys and girls who have played in rec soccer, and would like to move up to play high school soccer.

“The program helps them learn at a higher level with more intensity, and makes them stronger and better players by playing with other stronger more serious players,” Hedley explained.

This is also a tremendous local opportunity for those players who not only want to play at the high school level, but have aspirations of continuing their soccer career in college.

“A lot of college coaches tend to look at the players at club level more so than they do at high school because you usually get a better quality team and coaching at the club level,” Hedley said. “When you go out and play select, especially at this level, the parents have a serious commitment and you have 15 to 16 girls surrounding you who are committed to playing at a higher level too. In rec there might be players who are just there for the exercise or trying the game to see if they like it. At this age group and level they have all played before, and are serious about defining their skills as a soccer player.

DSC tryouts for U14-U15 select team are June 5-7 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. All players will be contacted by phone by the coach once decisions are made. Signing Day will be June 19, followed by a team camp July 30 through Aug. 3 for coaches to assess players and begin team development. The first practice will be on the week of August 8.

“The nice thing about the U-15 select for those wanting to play high school soccer is that we have a full fall season and no spring season, so they do not have to worry about time commitments,” Hedley said. “The select academy is a more intensive program than players get from rec. There is a lot more of a serious commitment from both the kids and the parents. Three days a week practice as opposed to only two nights a week. But, since you are close to home, parents can feel comfortable dropping their players off and enjoying a local restaurant with friends or choose from many other local things to do."

This new opportunity is just another great way that Dacula Soccer Club is continuing to provide a safe and healthy environment to teach recreational and competitive soccer to youth in our community.

“At Dacula we have a great set of coaches put in place by our new head of coaching, Drew Prentice,” Hedley said proudly. “He has great coaches at all age groups and a good selection of teams to pick from at any age. We have lots of availability if there are several siblings who want to play. There is nothing better than keeping it in a local environment close to home. This new U-15 girls select team and all of the programs at DSC are great to have right here in our backyard. I really do think we have an all around better club atmosphere than has ever been at Dacula, and we will continue to attract a lot of players in the coming years.”
