What Time Is the BCS National Championship Game?

No. 1 Notre Dame and No. 2 Alabama meet in Miami on Jan. 7 in the title game.

Will the next BCS national champion be the top-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish or will the No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide, the defending national champions, pick up its third national championship title in the past four years?

We'll find out Jan. 7. Coverage begins at 8 p.m. E.S.T. on ESPN.

Here are five things to know about this year's BCS matchup:

  1. Notre Dame has not won a championship in 24 years, its last coming in 1988. Alabama is the defending national champion and will become the first team to win back-to-back BCS titles if the Tide wins Monday night.
  2. Tonight's BCS game will be the first meeting between the Tide and Irish since 1987. The teams have played each other six times, with Notre Dame holding a 5-1 edge.
  3. Notre Dame has produced seven Heisman Trophy winners, Alabama has produced one -- Mark Ingram in 2009.
  4. If Alabama wins, it will be the seventh consecutive national championship for the SEC -- no other conference has ever won more than three consecutive titles.
  5. More than 72,000 fans are expected to watch tonight's title game in person. As of Jan. 6, there were about 4,200 tickets remaining, the cheapest of which was listed in the $900 price range.

LOL - Let's face it. The real national championship game was played in the Georgia Dome back in December. I almost (but not quite) felt sorry for Notre Dame last night.

If only the 4-team playoff started this year, I would love to now see Oregon play Alabama. But honestly I think Alabama would steam roll just about anyone right now. Lord Saban has created something pretty special in Tuscaloosa.
Seven straight years of a national champion from the SEC. With the likes of McCarron, Murray, and Manziel all playing again next year, eight straight years is just a matter of time. Going to be fun to watch. Not even 24 hours since the college football season ended and I’m already begging for more. I need help.

I know! Even though I am a die-hard Bama fan, I am really excited to see Manziel play next year. With McCarron and Murray back, we should have a really good year of SEC football indeed!
Frankly, I'd be shocked if the SEC doesn't make it eight next year. How the rest of the football world must hate us ....

In 1963 I was 14 and somehow landed a job mowing the lawn and doing other things for a prominentRead More local surgeon who had a 10 acre estate. They had a riding lawn mower and I was game to do anything that involved gas engines! It was a 2 mile bike ride there and I could work whenever I wanted and they paid me 50 cents an hour, so I was bringing home six or seven dollars a WEEK!!!

Hate to say it, but I'm unimpressed with the new format. I know I'm in the minority, but the siteRead More seems pretty lame to me now.

Hi Ed - What don't you like? Is there anything about the redesign you do like? Also, please let ourRead More engineers/product people know by clicking on the green "Feedback" flag on the right side of the page. They do take feedback into consideration for future versions of the site. This design is very different from the Alpha version they began rolling out last year. They listened to feedback and made several changes, so feedback really does matter.

I wrote this on another post but it so applies here and is worth repeating: James Madison wrote inRead More the federalist paper (no. 51) concerning the separation of powers and need for limited government , "“ It may be a reflection on human nature, that such devices should be necessary to control the abuses of government. But what is government itself, but the greatest of all reflections on human nature? If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself. A dependence on the people is, no doubt, the primary control on the government……” We need to have a "Madison moment"...
