Weather Forecast Prompts Postponement of Some Fourth of July Events

Celebrations at the Mall of Georgia and in Braselton are still scheduled to proceed as planned.

With heavy rain forecast for July 3 and July 4, several Independence Day event organizers have opted to reschedule fireworks shows and other activities.

The City of Sugar Hill has rescheduled its Sparkle in the Park from Wednesday, July 3, to Aug. 3. The Freedom Fest in Monroe, in Walton County, has moved to Saturday, July 6. Lilburn's Sparkle in the Park has also been postponed and is now scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 1.

The fireworks display on July 4 at the Mall of Georgia, however, will be held rain or shine. The Town of Braselton also plans to go forward with its Independence Day plans according to town manager Jennifer Dees.

The current forecast calls for a 100 percent chance of rain on July 3 and July 4 with showers and the possibility of thunderstorms. A flash flood watch is in effect from Wednesday morning through Friday. Rainfall amounts between 2 and 4 inches are possible.
