The Best Month of the Year!

It’s August everyone!  Do you know what that means?

School is going to start?  Yes it does, but that definitely does not make it the best month.

It’s Mitch’s birthday in August?  Yes, but no one outside my family cares and I’ve stopped counting anyway.

The weather starts to cool off?  Maybe just slightly, but now you are starting to get somewhere.

Okay, cooler weather and maybe some kind of sport activity begins?  Oh yes, you are on fire now!

Could it be…Football?  Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding!!  More specifically COLLEGE FOOTBALL!  It all starts Thursday, August 29th at 6pm to be precise.  The Carolinas will get things started in the battle between North Carolina and South Carolina.  Sixteen other FBS D1-A games will follow that evening and the rest of the schools will follow all weekend with Florida State at Pittsburgh wrapping up the first week of games on that Monday night.

So, what better time than now to give you my preseason Top 10.  Here goes:

1.)    ALABAMA (Hard to go against this talent filled team that has won three of the last four National Championships.  Will we see a three-peat this year?  Only test I see will be against A&M and I don’t think Lord Saban will allow that to happen two years in a row.)

2.)    OREGON (Maybe it’s the uniforms, maybe it’s their winning ways, but they are always fun to watch.  A new head coach may be their only obstacle.)

3.)    TEXAS A&M (I have officially changed the name Johnny Football to Johnny Party.)

4.)    OHIO STATE (Could be ranked higher if not for the loss of their starting RB Hyde (3 games) and CB Roby (undetermined), and other players to suspension due to off field activities.  They still have enough talent to walk through a weak B1G.)

5.)    GEORGIA/CLEMSON (Since they play each other the first week I figured why not put them together here.  The winner stays, the loser drops out after week 1.  Should be a very good game.)

6.)    STANFORD (True freshman Barry Sanders Jr. steps on the field for the Cardinals.  I think that is all that needs to be said here.)

7.)    NOTRE DAME (No fake dead girlfriend distractions.)

8.)    SOUTH CAROLINA (The old ball coach continues to bring talent and compete against the best.)

9.)    LOUISVILLE (Coming off a big win against Florida in the Sugar Bowl last year they return 19 starters including Heisman hopeful Teddy Bridgewater, who just insured himself $10 million against injury.)

10.) IOWA (Can you say homer pick?  Yes, you can.  But hey, just like everyone else, they haven’t lost yet.  I’m allowed to dream you know.)

So, have I lost my mind?  Care to call me out?  What is your Top 10?  Let me know in your comments.
